Something bothering me about The Walking Dead #99 into issue #100. A bit of a disclaimer too. I love this series and Issue 100 was great. Just some things that have been pestering me since I finished Issue 100 today.
Don't read on if you don't want spoilers!!!!
Rick making the absolute ignorant decision to leave Alexandra (the town), after he had humiliated Negan's group, not once (on the road), but twice (Outside of Alexandria) is just too contrived. The only reason to want to send the group out there was so they could be intercepted and ambushed! It really took me out of the story, which led to the death that will likely sweep the internet in a matter of hours. I honestly don't think Rick would have made this move so soon after Abraham's murder outside the walls of Alexandria. It was obvious that Negan's people were stalking them. After all that happened with the prison and the Governor 50 issues ago. I figure the characters level of caution would be higher. Rick and everyone could plainly see that they were being watched. Its just so stupid I can't even buy it! Plus the absolute "troupe" of dialog leading up to the "big" death was just too projected! All he had left to say was that "After this I'm gonna get a burger with my girl!".

I was wondering about that myself. Unless he was trying to give his group a "Pearl Harbor" moment to force a war, it just doesn't make any sense.

I'm not sure what to make of it.
It felt kind of cheap and I think Kirkman is writing in circles now. It's like a Dragonball Z episode. You build up to the next bad guy, beat him and go through the whole cycle again.
And Glenn's death felt cheap. Like Tyrese, but pointless. Plus the excessive head splurging felt like Kirkman trying to be Garth Ennis (creator of crossed, stitched, punisher max, the boys...) And the dialogue - dear god. Did he actually say "Fucking fuckety fuck"? It's like a 14 yearold said "I've got the bestest, most badass villian ever and I can say what I want co's mom and dad are out!"
That said, I like that this is the first time you've felt there's a real threat since the governor and Rick is over his head. I was also surprised at them hitting Rick in the car instead of the undefended town. Bonus for "future serial killer Carl". I just didn't find the guy convincing. The governor had his public face. This guy is just a mad max gang leader (on a large scale) and seems off somehow.
It also felt like like they chose the safest character to ice that would still have an impact. Why not Maggie? We've had woman and babies killed before. Could have had Glenn become a psychotic killer with nothing to lose who puts the group in danger and conflicts with Rick later on. But no - just usual Kirkman cycle of "put group in trouble, kill loved character, insert bad dialogue and repeat".
I think the comic has jumped the shark now. Unless Rick goes full on jihad mode and sets himself up as grand supreme warlord, there's nowhere to go.
Of course, I'll still read the fuck out of it - but I would have stopped paying money a long time ago.
On to the TV series!!

All good points Flyboy and I find little, if anything, to really disagree with. Not sure it's jumped the shark yet, but I did think that the first time I read issue #100 for all the reasons you did. The next couple of issue will pretty much be sink or swim with me as to whether I stick with this much longer.

I just felt a bit cheated, I mean its episode 100 kinda a big deal, I was expecting it to be a bit more climactic than this, I guess I was kind of thinking it was going to be mass carnage like the prison escape episode where many characters were written out.

Yes, from that perspective it was kind of an non-event.

Well at least with issue 102-103 we can see that Rick was playing possum. I expect within the year Negan is going to b shitting splinters from Lucille.
